continues.....

Me: "So what seems to be the problem..." 

I took a seat next to Bellisario.

Bellisario: "Dr. Nascimento is attempting to change history by "altering" the incidents of the Cold War."

Me: "What's so important that he would want to change this?"  I know like us, Dr. Evil Nascimento, has the ability to leap through time. How we do it, we use quantum leap, similar to the show atomic electron transition used on the show Quantum Leap, but we do not fuse with individuals nor are we locked in a machine.  The only limitations are that we have to been in the location we want to leap and only have 24 hours in a time period before we are stuck in whatever period and whatever location.

Bellisario: "I don't know...but I do know that the Cold War lasted from 1947 to 1991. It was a psychological warfare between US and Russia...threatening to kill each other with the push of the button. You know this is the first time in human history that man has had the power to destroy itself."

Me: "the atomic bomb, correct Alex?.."

Bellisario: "I see you didn't get that coffee..." he said with a cheeky smile. As I rolled my eyes....Bellisario continues. "Although, America and Russia did not engage in face to face combat, the countries' satellite nations, such as Korean, Vietnam,  Cuba, amongst others.  From Europe to Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, it appeared that the satellites were doing all the work. Russia and the US send aid when it "was in their best interest" but these countries were mere chess pieces in a game of thrones...."

Me: "So when you say "aid," using the quote, end quote hand signal as mocking, I give Bellisario a wicked smile..."you mean espionage, propaganda campaigns, and military support: training and supplies..."

Bellisario: "yes, and technological advancement too...it was during this time that we began space exploration.  The Space Race, as it was termed, were seen as necessary for national security, but also national moral:  "We beat you...nay..nay..boo boo".  The Space Race started after World War II, after both US and Russia captured the Germany rocket technology and personnel. With this "power" the nations were able to put satellites and a man in space and on the moon..."

Me: "OK, back to earth...the Cold War....how did it start?"

Bellisario: "some dated it back to 1917, other historians date it start during or shortly after WWII.   When Russia withdrew from WWI, Vladimir Lenin stated that the Soviet Union was surrounded by capitalist and the capitalist regime...US...was trying to divide the nation. After Lenin, Stalin succeeded; he tried to stop capitalism in its track, by enacting a policy of socialism.  As we know, socialism would be the down fall of Communist Russia."

Bellisario hands over a packet....

Me: "What is this...?" I questioned.

Bellisario: "Its your packet for the assignment.  Shield and 16 will meet you on the plane..."

Me: "And where am I going...?"

Bellisario: "Cuba, my dear....and may there you can get some coffee...."
